Instrumental Music

There are several opportunities for students at Kalkie to be involved in musical groups, and all students are welcome to participate. Students who wish to be part of these groups must be committed to regular practice sessions for the whole year, and will find this a most rewarding experience.

The school provides performance uniforms for the students involved in these groups, but they are asked to have a Kalkie Sports Shirt, Long Black pants, black shoes and black socks to wear on special occasions.

Interested students from Year 3 onwards are eligible for free tuition of a stringed instrument. Students from Year 5 onwards are eligible for brass and woodwind tuition. These teachers attend our school one day a week to provide this tuition.

A small number of stringed instruments belonging to the school are available on loan. Instruments available include: brass (trumpet, trombone, French horn & bass guitar), woodwind (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone & bass clarinet) and percussion (tuned and untuned). As with most precious resources, loans of instruments cannot be guaranteed and remain at the discretion of the Principal. Because school instruments are limited, we encourage the purchase or rental of an instrument for your child. Our instrumental music teachers can provide you with advice regarding your child’s musical aptitude and selecting and sourcing suitable, reputable instruments.

A small levy is required to assist with the development of the Bundaberg Instrumental Music Library and instrument maintenance. In 2015, the levy is $20 for all students for the Music Library.

If you have a school instrument, there is also a maintenance-loan fee of $30.00. This should be paid in full prior to commencement of tuition. Further expenditure may be required for music books and instrument accessories such as rosin for bows.
