Kalkie State School Captain Hayley Bignell is cutting a ruler’s length of hair from her long golden locks to help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser, ‘The World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure’ held officially 10-13 March 2016. Hayley is also donating her hair to the Princess Charlotte Alopecia Foundation that makes wigs for young ladies with Alopecia. On 11 March Hayley will be allowing her mother Janine, to cut her hair in front of the entire school at weekly assembly. Students will be coming dressed with crazy hair to support the cause and raise funds for the Leukaemia foundation. “In year 2 I cut enough hair off to sell to a wig shop. I donated the money they gave me to someone with cancer raising money for cancer research. I got a letter from the wig shop owner telling me that my hair was used to make a wig worn by a lady with Alopecia on her wedding day”, said Hayley. “I really liked the way it made me feel, to help others. I decided back then that I wanted to do it again but help a lot more people this time,” she said. Former Kalkie School Captain, Chelsea Stutchbury was struck down with Lymphoma which falls under the Leukaemia Foundation’s blood cancer banner. Chelsea and Hayley spoke at the Kalkie School parade Friday 19 February at 9am to promote awareness and inspire students to think of others and the importance of helping others. Chelsea will perform at parade her Australian iTunes chart listing song ‘Vincristine’. She wrote the song named after a drug whilst having chemotherapy in 2014. All sales from the song go to QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. Chelsea’s Specialist Doctor, Haematologist Oncologist, Dr James Morton AM, is founder of the ‘The World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure’. Judi Keightley Teacher
